Leveraging Culture

Comments

I know, especially with homeschooling the children, that it is our job to not "avoid" this culture. I think that commonplace America wants to stay away from the "bad" so we are not influenced by it. Instead, just as Jesus did, we are called to immerse ourselves in it so that we can make a difference. With the Holy Spirit in our hearts, we will not be moved by outside influences...we can face them with determination and with confidence that our "lights" will change lives. Simply showing love to those who do not necessarily receive love is tremendous. Small, random acts of kindness may be the first Jesus some people have ever seen. Anyway, in my long-winded sort of way, I am saying that we have to stop hiding from the culture, and jump in. We do not have to be afraid of what we might see, for God has equipped us with a Spirit that will be with us wherever we go. We need to continue to encourage others to "jump in" with us.
Couldn't agree more. In fact, I could have included your thoughts in my post! Culture is scary, especially when raising kids because you wonder how much influence you'll maintain over them as they get older. But that's where I believe we must train them how to sift through it all and learn how to find God and leverage that so we can share the hope of Jesus with people. thanks!
